RESULTS
LANCASTER, Pa. - The Ursinus College men's swimming team opened their 2022-23 season at the Centennial Conference quad meet featuring Swarthmore, McDaniel, and Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears defeated McDaniel 166-59 but fell to Swarthmore (194-65) and Franklin & Marshall (141-116) to open their season. Sophomore
Jonah Kasznay led the Bears with a first-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle touching the wall at 9:55.94, while finishing fourth in the 200 back (2:01.15). Senior
Ryan Carkhuff added a second-place finish in the 50 free (21.46) and a fifth-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 48.46.
Junior
Stephen Lyons earned fourth place finishes in the 50 free (21.76) and 100 free (48.44), while classmate
Jake Hennegan earned sixth in the 100 breast (1:02.78) and seventh in the 500 free (5:11.67). Senior
Ryan Schreffler finished 6
th in the 100 back with a time of 56.06 as younger brother
Dylan Schreffler earned 11
th in the 50 free touching the wall at 22.57.
Sophomore
Kevin Sonn earned two top-ten finishes with an eighth-place finish in the 200 breast (2:19.48) and a sixth-place finish in the 1000 free (10:53.34). First-year
David McCauley impressed in his debut with the Bears earning silver in the 500 free (4:52.41) and a fifth-place finish in the 200 free (1:48.14). Classmate
Francesco D'Avella shined throughout the afternoon collecting three fourth place finishes in the 200 IM (2:04.16), and the 100 (1:00.78) & 200 breaststroke (2:16.83).
First-year
William Cano earned a fourth-place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 53.85 while collecting a ninth-place finish in the 50 free (22.27). Sophomore
Jan Perez-Bonilla finished just behind in the 100 fly with a time of 54.47 (6
th) and earned a fourth-place finish in the 200 fly (2:04.17). Junior
Daniel Leach finished 9
th in the 200 fly (2:11.46), while sophomore
Jake Klucinec edged Leach in the 200 fly with a seventh-place finish with a time of 2:10.65.
The quartet of Kasznay, D'Avella, Lyons, and Carkhuff picked up a third-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:37.46. Teammates
Samuel Taffet, Cano, D. Schreffler, and R. Schreffler finished just behind in fifth with a time of 1:39.88.
The Bears will return to action on Saturday as they travel to York College for a non-conference meet starting at 1pm.
