MACUNGIE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Golf finished in third place at the 2019 Centennial Conference Golf Championship with a score of 945 after all three rounds were completed.
Swarthmore entered the final round in first place with a nine-stroke advantage, but couldn't hold off Gettysburg and McDaniel who charged ahead in the final round with a 295 and 307, respectively. The Garnet carded a 318 on Sunday and finished 93 strokes over par for the weekend.
Senior captain Nick DiMaio, who shot 75, 80 and then 78, earned All-Centennial Conference honors by tying for fifth overall. DiMaio's 233 for the weekend left him just eight strokes behind the individual champion Danny Harcourt.
DiMaio sank birdies on holes five, nine, 15 and 16 on Sunday en route to his 78.
Ankur Malik and senior Vamsi Damerla tied for 10th place with a score of 239. Malik posted a 79 (+8) on Sunday and Damerla went for an 84 (+13).
Senior Dan Altieri birdied the second and 13th holes and collected five pars to finish with an 80 and a tie for 12th place overall with sophomore Michael Brown. Brown and Altieri finished with 241s. Brown shot an 81 on Sunday to cap off his championship rounds. He birdied two holes and reached par on six others.
Swarthmore finished in the top-four of the Centennial Conference in each of the past four years. Swarthmore graduates three from its championship lineup and five total from the roster and looks to build on the foundation established by this senior class.
