KISSIMEE, Fla. - Swarthmore College Softball split doubleheaders in Florida on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, with their most recent win coming against Marietta and loss against Plymouth.
The Garnet finished their spring break trip with a 5-3 record, and they're now 6-3 to begin the 2019 season.
GAME ONE: Swarthmore 7, Marietta 1
Swarthmore had 12 hits in Game 1, and senior
Marit Vike had four of them in all four of her at bats. She scored three runs.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first, but Swarthmore junior
Gabriella Natoli tied it up with an RBI in the bottom of the inning. She plated three of her teammates in the win.
The Garnet broke out for four runs in the second. Natoli and sophomore
Mika Maenaga had RBI singles while junior
Kalli Segel drove in one as well.
Vike led off the fourth with a bunt single and freshman
Gwen Glatz moved her to third with a double. VIke scored on a wild pitch, and Glatz scored on a Segel single.
Sophomore
Lucy Decker made her fifth start of the season and went the distance, striking out four while allowing only three hits. She's 3-2 on the year.
GAME TWO: Plymouth 3, Swarthmore 2
The Garnet and Panthers went back and forth early on. Swarthmore scored one in the first, Plymouth scored two in the second, and the Garnet tied the game in the third.
Segel recorded both of Swarthmore's RBIs in the defeat as the bats for both teams went quiet over the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
The Panthers won the game on a walk-off bunt with runners on first and third in the bottom of the seventh.
Natoli and sophomore
Sam Wagner led the Garnet with two hits each.
The Garnet are scheduled to play a doubleheader at Clothier Field against Penn State Brandywine on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.
