Melissa Leonard and Senior
Abigail Ferguson each broke a pool record as the Ursinus College women's swimming team defeated Dickinson College on Saturday afternoon, 116-82.
With the victory, the Bears improved to 7-3 overall and 4-3 in Centennial Conference play, meanwhile the Red Devils fell to 7-5 on the season and 2-4 in conference action.
The Bears celebrated two seniors on the afternoon as
Charlotte Driver and
Abigail Ferguson were recognized prior to the meet for their dedication and commitment to the women's swimming program. Driver earned top-three times in three separate races as she collected third place finishes in the 1000 free (11:37.64) and 100 Fly (1:03.44), while taking second place in the 100 breast with a time of 1:13.26. Ferguson took first-place in the 100 breast with a time of 1:08.92 and broke the pool record in the 400 IM touching the wall at 4:40.07. Joining Ferguson in the record books was junior
Melissa Leonard as she tallied a pool record in the 1000 free with a time of 10:26.07 while also earning a first-place finish in the 100 free touching the wall at 53.59.
Junior
Alexandra Zelinske tallied a first-place finish for the Bears in the 100 back (1:01.03), while sophomore
Katie Barlow collected the top time in the 500 free (5:19.10) and a second-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 2:00.36.
Sophomore
Molly Stevens earned a second-place finish in the 100 fly, touching the wall at 1:02.47 and a third place finish in the 100 back with a time of 1:03.11. Classmate
Emily Carkhuff took home third place in the 500 free (5:29.01), while first-year
Sara Bozzomo earned second place in the 50 free with a time of 25.80. Junior
Erica Locke collected the third fastest time in the 200 free touching the wall at 2:14.26, while classmate
Morgan Grabowski recorded a third-place finish in the 100 free (57.60) and a fourth-place finish in the 50 free touching the wall at 26.91.
Ursinus earned the best time in each relay event as the quartet of Zelinske, Ferguson, Stevens, and Bozzomo earned a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:53.55. In the 400-yard freetsyle relay, the quartet of Bozzomo, Barlow, Zelinske, and Leonard finished nearly seven seconds ahead of the Red Devils with a time of 3:40.49.
The Bears return to action on February 16
th as they prepare for the Centennial Conference Championships hosted by Gettysburg College.
