Blue Jays Wrap Up Regular Season With a 75-53 Victory Over Ursinus on Senior Day

Lillian Scott Led All Scorers With 27 Points

The Basics 
• Score: Johns Hopkins - 75, Ursinus - 53

• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team sent its seven seniors out with a win as Hopkins defeated Ursinus, 75-53 on Saturday afternoon at Goldfarb Gym. Prior to the game, the seven seniors, Rory Cole, Madison McGrath, Lexie Scholtz, Lillian Scott, Maggie Spitzer, Marissa Varnado and Sophia Way were honored for their commitment and dedication to the program.

How it Happened
• With the Blue Jays holding a 5-4 lead, Scott scored back-to-back buckets to make the score 9-4. A Varnado jumper at the four-minute mark made it a seven-point contest at 15-8 and a Varnado three at the three-minute mark put JHU up 20-11. Scholtz hit a jumper as time expired in the quarter to give Johns Hopkins a 24-15 lead at the end of one.
• With 7:34 remaining in the second, Scott converted on the layup to make the score 28-17, but the Bears scored the next eight points to cut the lead to 28-25 with 1:49 left in the half. A three from Scholtz and a Scott layup put the Blue Jays back on top 33-25 and JHU took a 33-27 lead into the half.
• Hopkins opened the third on a 6-0 run to take a 39-27 lead, but two free throws by Aliyah Stephens made it a 10-point game at 7:24. After a jumper from Stephens at 5:34 cut the Blue Jay lead to nine, a Scott layup sparked a 7-0 run to make the score 50-34 and Johns Hopkins entered the final quarter of play leading 57-38.
• Scott gave Hopkins a 20-point advantage at the 7:31 mark and a three from Elise Moore put JHU up 70-49 and Hopkins would cruise to a 75-53 victory.

What it Means
• The 18 Centennial Conference victories set a new program record.
• JHU has now won nine-straight games for the first time since 2011-12.
With the victory, Johns Hopkins now holds a 39-9 advantage in the all-time series against Ursinus as JHU has won the last five meetings.
• The team is now second all-time in program history in made threes with 164. The record is 172 which was set in the 2016-17 season.

Inside the Box Score
• Scott finished with 27 points four rebounds and four assists while Scholtz added 18 points, five rebounds and three assists.
• Cole grabbed eight rebounds and scored four points while Spitzer finished with eight points, three rebounds and four assists.
• Varnado added seven points in the contest and Diarra Oden finished the game with seven points.

Up Next
• Hopkins will take on Haverford in the second semifinal game of the Centennial Conference Tournament on Friday, February 22. The game will be hosted by Gettysburg, as the Bullets earned the top seed in the conference. Tip-time will be officially announced on Monday.
