Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Wins Third Straight

Three players in their first year with the team took care of all the scoring as the Muhlenberg women's soccer team improved to 3-0 with a 3-0 win at Gwynedd Mercy.

The Mules have won their three games by scores of 1-0, 2-0 and 3-0. Although they started last year with three straight shutouts, one was a scoreless draw; this is the first time in the 29-year history of the program that they have opened with three conseuctive shutout wins.

Freshman Emily DeAngelo opened the scoring late in the first half after junior Hannah Merlo, making her season debut, stepped up to intercept a Gwynedd clearing pass. DeAngelo blasted her shot over the head of the goalie for her first career goal.

Di Cori (pictured above) netted her first career goal off a set piece, running onto a superb long free kick from sophomore Kayleigh Durning with 30:35 to play in the second half.

Sophomore Marielle Avola, who ran cross country last fall, capped the scoring with about 16 minutes remaining. A shot by sophomore Cece Peden appeared to be going wide, but Avola ran it down before it went out and redirected it into the open net.

Muhlenberg ran up a 22-2 advantage in shots and did not allow a shot in the final 60 minutes of the game. Senior Libby Juliano, named Centennial Conference player of the week earlier in the day, stopped both shots taken by the Griffins (0-3). Junior Kayla Klarides and sophomore Julianna King minded the net in the second half.
