WESTMINSTER, Md. – Senior 165-pounder Joe Salerno (Princeton Junction, N.J. / West Windsor-Plainsboro South) set the program record for pins in a season in helping lead the Washington and Lee wrestling team to wins over Muhlenberg and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday afternoon at McDaniel College.
 
The Generals (11-5, 5-1) posted a 26-13 victory over Muhlenberg (11-8, 3-2) and then notched a 34-6 win over the Merchant Marines (5-4, 4-2) to end the regular season with an 11-5 overall record and a 5-1 mark in the Centennial Conference.
 
Salerno recorded pins in both of his matches on the day, felling Ronald Grevera of Muhlenberg in 3:57 and Eric DeWald of the Merchant Marines in just 47 seconds.  He now has 21 pins on the season, breaking his own school record of 20 set during the 2019-20 season.  He now has 59 career pins, also a school record and just one pin away from tying the Centennial Conference record.
 
W&L trailed 7-0 after the first two weight classes in the matchup with the Mules, but four straight wins across the middle weight classes gave the Generals a commanding 22-10 lead in cruising to the victory.
 
The Blue & White never trailed against the Mariners.  Junior Riley Parker (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) picked up a forfeit win at 125 pounds and the Generals continued to build a lead throughout.  Salerno and senior 285-pounder Clay Chadwick (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) both won by fall as W&L defeated USMMA for the fifth straight time.
 
Salerno, Chadwick, senior 141-pounder Charlie Cunningham (Pequannock, N.J. / Seton Hall Prep), junior 157-pounder Ryan Luth (Milford, Conn./Joseph A Foran) and senior 184-pounder Brad Basham (Burlington, Mass. / Buckingham Browne & Nichols) all went 2-0 on the day to lead Washington and Lee's effort.
 
The Generals will return to the mat next Saturday when they compete in the Centennial Conference Championship at Johns Hopkins.  Wrestling begins at 10:00 am.
