Women's Soccer Posts Third Consecutive Shutout over Ursinus, 2-0

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's soccer team (6-4-2, 3-2-1 CC) posted its third consecutive shutout, blanking visiting Ursinus (2-8-1, 0-5 CC) by a final score of 2-0 on Walton Field Saturday afternoon.

Haverford dominated possession for the majority of the contest, firing off 16 shots to just four for the Bears. The Fords earned five corners while Ursinus took just one in the matinee. In a scoreless first half, Haverford peppered the net in the early goings with Gabrielle Cipriano tallying two on frame in the first 15 minutes of play. A flurry of shots in the final 10 minutes of the stanza went fruitless, with Ashley Chun getting a solid shot on frame in the 42nd minute.

Chasing the opening goal, the Fords looked for a spark from Grace Haskell. Haskell fired wide in the 48th minute and notched a strong attempt on frame in the 52nd. Ursinus goalkeeper Mandy Carideo lunged to make a stellar save, but the deflection off her fingertips found the waiting foot of Cipriano, who was ready to tap in the eventual game-winner with her second of the season. Haskell was awarded her second career assist for the initial shot attempt.

The Fords did not take their foot off the gas with that goal in hand, with Cipriano and Celia Page each firing shots on frame ahead of a 66th minute attempt from Rachel White. White slotted a perfectly placed ball that again redirected off Carideo and into the waiting foot of Page, who was waiting in a perfect spot to double the Haverford advantage at 2-0. White was credited with her first career assist on the initially deflected shot.

With the two-goal advantage in hand, the Fords played a possession-minded final 20 minutes. Julia Noppenberger and Angie Geralis each firing shots on target in the 90th minute.

Friedrich tallied her sixth shutout of the season, and the Haverford back line flustered the Ursinus strikers into poor shot selection, holding the visitors without a shot on target on the afternoon.

Cipriano had a game-best four shots, putting all of those attempts on frame. Haverford is unbeaten in its last four meetings with Ursinus, a stretch that dates back to 2017.

The Fords next return to action with another Centennial Conference home game on Wednesday, October 13, taking on Franklin & Marshall at 4 p.m.
