CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Facing one of its longest road treks of the Centennial Conference season, the Haverford College field hockey team (6-8, 3-4 CC) came up short at Washington College (7-7, 4-3 CC) in a 2-0 decision at Kirby Stadium.

The first shot of the contest came in the sixth minute with Washington's Anna Harrington firing wide of the frame. Washington scored on its second shot of the contest after a pair of redirections in the circle eventually put the ball in the back of the cage. When everything was sorted, Jam Hutt-Robles was credited with the opening goal with the assist going to Jillian Brejnik.

Brejnik later put another shot on frame in the 11th minute, but Mary Smith turned away the attempt. After a penalty corner in the 15th minute, MaryCate Anson sent a ball in to Brejnik to double the Shorewomen advantage to 2-0.

Washington College stifled the Haverford offense, holding the Fords without a shot in the first 45 minutes of action. A flurry of third-quarter corners saw Zoey Despines rocket a shot on frame in the 44th minute, and Haverford came alive in the fourth quarter, earning five penalty corners in that period. Ultimately the first half narrative was flipped in the second, with Haverford holding the Shorewomen without a shot.

Delaney Snowden, Despines, and Naomi York each put shots on target in the period, but ultimately Ava Rivera was able to secure the shutout, making four saves for her sixth win of the season. Haverford held a 9-4 edge in penalty corners, but could not come back from that early deficit in the contest.

Field hockey now returns home for a 1 p.m. first pass against Gettysburg on Saturday, The contest will be Senior Day at Swan Field, as the Fords honor Olivia Ahart, Dalia Bercow, Rebecca Donahue, Sophie Frem, Anna Kirn, Delaney Snowden, and Lexie Streicher prior to taking on the Bullets.
