Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

TCNJ Slips Past Men’s Soccer

Ewing, N.J. –  The Gettysburg men's soccer team lost a disappointing non-conference contest at The College of New Jersey Saturday afternoon. The Lions scored with under a minute to go in regulation to take the 2-1 victory in the first game of the 2018 TCNJ Men's Soccer Classic.

In the first half, the Bullets only collected one shot, which was from freshman Connor Fife (Newtown, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) who kicked it high over the goal at the 41:13 marker. Gettysburg had no real opportunity to score in the first half as the Bullets attack got caught offsides 12 times.

TCNJ outshot the Bullets 3-1 in the first half, but the score remained at a 0-0 standstill heading into the half.

After a scoreless first half, the Bullets opened the scoring 59 seconds into the second half as Fife crossed the ball from the right side to freshman Oladayo Thomas (Larchmont, N.Y./The Masters) who shot from the center of the box, giving Gettysburg the 1-0 lead. Fife was credited with the assist, while Thomas netted his first career goal.

In the 63rd minute, TCNJ pulled even as Ryan Vazquez headed the ball to the center of the box.

At the 71st minute, the Bullets had a golden opportunity to go up 2-1 off a penalty kick, but junior Precious Ozoh (Abuja, Nigeria/Holderness School (N.H.)) shot to the right of the net, and the Lions goalkeeper saved it.

With a minute left in regulation, the Bullets fouled in a dangerous area, just outside the box, and the Lions took full advantage as Nick Sample scored a header off the free kick to secure the win.

TCNJ ended the contest outshooting Gettysburg 10-7, while also claiming a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Gettysburg will look to bounce back Sunday as they take on the 19th-ranked Rutgers University-Newark in Ewing, N.J. Game time is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
