How It Happened…
  • First Half: In the downpouring rain, the two teams managed to score six goals in the first 37 minutes of action. Ten minutes in, the Yellow Jackets Howell scored on a wide-open shot to the right of the net to grab the first tally. Just over two minutes later, Todhunter passed from the right side to Thomas, who then headed the ball into the upper 90 for the equalizer. The Bullets went ahead less than five minutes later as Carroll shot into the lower right of the cage off a pass from O'Donnell. The Yellow Jackets responded with a goal from Senior 30 seconds later to tie the match at two-all. With 33:42 on the clock, O'Donnell accumulated his first career goal as he received a cross from Sampson to the middle of the box to hit the back of the net. The visitors, once again, produced the game-tying goal with under eight to play.
  • Second Half: After a high scoring spree in the first half, the second was the complete opposite as neither team could assemble a tally. Both teams had plenty of opportunities as Gettysburg held the 8-7 advantage in shots. The Yellow Jackets looked like they were about to score as Josh Beeker kicked at what he thought was an open net, but sophomore Nikko DiSimplico (Hockessin, Del./Salesianum School) stepped in the cage at the right time to make the unbelievable save. Gettysburg saw one of their best chances with under 28 to go as Thomas made a great cut towards the cage, but his shot went high and wide.
  • Overtime: The Bullets blasted three shots with O'Donnell's nearly missing the cage as he hit the lower left post at the 97th minute.
  • Double Overtime: Thomas struck gold in the 105th minute as Carroll dribbled down the left side to find a wide-open Thomas on a breakaway, sneaking pass the goalkeeper to drill the game-winner.
By the Numbers
  • The Bullets finished with the 22-17 edge in shots and corner kicks 9-5.
  • This was the second double-overtime match of the season for the Orange and Blue.
  • With the win today, the Bullets surpassed their win total from a season ago.
  • Gettysburg held a 5-3 record against non-conference opponents this season.
