Men’s Swimming Sinks Messiah

Gettysburg wins nine of 10 events in 134-52 decision

GRANTHAM, Pa. –
Messiah College opened with a victory in the 200 medley relay, but that would be the last win of the day for the host Falcons as Gettysburg College (5-0) won the final nine races on the way to a 134-52 non-conference decision in a men's swimming dual Friday evening.

Meet Highlights
  • Messiah opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay as Avery Barley seized the advantage in the backstroke and the Falcons held off the hard-charging Bullets for a razor-thin 0.08 second win.
  • Nonemaker, the reigning Centennial Conference Swimmer of the Week, continued his dominant season with the first of three wins on the night in the 200 free. He led a 1-2-3 finish by the Bullets with a time of 1:44.54. The sophomore dominated the 100 free by three seconds with a mark of 47.28 and kicked off the 200 free relay with a 21.7 split. Edelson, junior Danny Petrillo (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan), and Yancey joined Nonemaker to post a time of 1:26.30.
  • Yancey led a 1-2-3 finish in the 50 free with a time of 22.14. It was his third victory in the 50 this season.
  • Sophomore Oliver Pickering (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) and Edelson traded the lead back-and-forth in the 200 IM before Pickering turned on the jets in the freestyle to win by five-hundredths of a second at 1:59.87. Edelson came right back to win the 100 fly (53.40).
  • Proxmire locked down his fourth win of the season in the 500 free, edging Petrillo by over two seconds at 4:53.16.
  • Cox earned his sixth individual victory of the season in a showdown with Barley in the 100 back. The first-year jumped out to the early lead and held on for a close victory at 52.79.
  • Dias closed out the individual wins with a close win over Isaac McCabe. The senior sped away down the home stretch and won with a time of 1:02.92.
 
Where the Series Stands Now
Gettysburg improved to 12-0 against Messiah.
 
Next Up
Gettysburg caps the opening semester with its own two-day invitational in the Bullets Pool on Dec. 6-7. The opening day's events kick off at 6 p.m.
