Muskies split final two games at Gio Memorial Tournament

The Muskingum volleyball team went 1-1 on the final day of the Gio Memorial Tournament. The Muskies swept Birmingham-Southern 3-0 and fell to Johns Hopkins 3-0.

Game 1
The Basics
• Muskingum (5-2), Birmingham-Southern (5-4)
• Location: Goldfarb Gymnasium – Baltimore, Maryland

How it Happened
• The Muskies continued their dominate play, handling the Panthers in set one, 25-11.
• Riding their momentum, the Muskies didn't let up, winning the second frame, 25-13.
• The Muskies capped off the sweep with a set three victory, 25-18.
• Leading Muskingum was sophomore Lexie Huck with 12 kills.
• Sophomore Khloe Taylor added 10 kills, and senior Brooke Bigrigg chipped in nine kills.
• Senior Erin Dickson dished out 24 assists, and junior Emma Conrad tallied 16 assists.
• The Panthers were led by Emily Buhl with eight kills.

Inside the Numbers
• The Muskies tallied 47 kills, 44 assists, 46 digs, and five blocks in the match.
• Birmingham-Southern notched 32 kills, 31 assists, 38 digs, and four blocks.

Game 2

• Muskingum (5-3), Johns Hopkins (6-0)
• Location: Goldfarb Gymnasium – Baltimore, Maryland

How It Happened
• After trading blows early in the first set, Johns Hopkins was able to settle in and take the opening frame, 25-20.
• Riding the momentum from their set one win, Johns Hopkins continued their solid play, winning the second set 25-17.
• The Blue Jays concluded matters in the third set, winning 25-17.
• Leading the Muskie attack was senior Brooke Bigrigg with six kills and eight digs.
• Senior Erin Dickson added five kills and nine assists as well.
• Junior Emma Dunham and sophomore Raegan Flood also added four kills.
• Junior Emma Conrad chipped in eight assists.
• Johns Hopkins was led by Sydney Portale with 14 kills.

Inside the Numbers
• The Muskies tallied 24 kills, 21 assists, 38 digs, and five blocks on the night.
• Johns Hopkins totaled 46 kills, 46 assists, 52 digs, and 13 blocks in the match.

Up Next
The Muskies will next travel to Hope College to compete in the Hope Tournament on Friday, September 17. Muskingum's first match will be against Cornell College and is slated for 5:00 p.m.
