CHESTER, Pa.—Swarthmore College Volleyball improved to 4-3 on the season with a road win at Widener University on Wednesday night. The Garnet took the contest 3-1, taking the first set 25-17, dropping the second set 27-25, and then overwhelming Widener 25-14 and 25-17 in the next two sets.
Freshman Chloe Mayhue had a match-high 18 kills while hitting .207 (18 kills, six errors, 58 attacks). Fellow first-year Alexa Bartlett added nine kills. Emma Morgan-Bennett pitched in seven kills while hitting .357.
Four players recorded double-digit digs with Sarah Carrasco leading the way with 27. Sierra Tyson added 15, Mayhue 12, and den Braven 11.
Tyson's 37 assists were a match high. She helped set up Swarthmore's attack to hit a .220 clip for the match and an impressive .371 in the fourth set. Swarthmore limited Widener to .063 hitting for the match.
Next up for Swarthmore is its first matches in Tarble Pavilion this season beginning with a 4 p.m. start against Rowan University on Friday. The Garnet will be hosting a two-court tournament on Friday and Saturday.
