The Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team used scoring runs of 5-0 and 4-0 to come from behind and win at St. Mary's, 10-7, in its final tuneup for Centennial Conference play.
Sophomore
Ethan Grossman scored three goals for his 12th career hat trick, and freshmen
Matt Marrella and
James Dalimonte added a pair of goals apiece.
The Seahawks (7-4), who last Saturday defeated Muhlenberg's CC rival Washington, scored a pair of goals in the first quarter to take a 2-0 lead. The defense then kept St. Mary's off the scoreboard for the next 25 minutes.
Freshman
Cooper Richards got the Mules (7-1) on the scoreboard by scoring off the second-quarter faceoff, and MarrellaÂ
(pictured above) netted his first goal late in the half to tie the score.
A goal by Marrella and two by Grossman in the third quarter made it 5-2.
After the Seahawks closed to within 6-5, Muhlenberg scored the first four goals of the fourth quarter - two by Dalimonte - to open up a commanding 10-5 lead. The defense and junior faceoff specialist
Frankie Feaster combined to hold St. Mary's without a shot on goal in the first 10 minutes of the final period.
The starting defensive unit of sophomore
Matt Hager (3), senior
Nolan Robbins (2) and freshman
Kyle Lando (1) combined to cause six turnovers. Muhlenberg had a 39-17 advantage in shots until the final five minutes.
The Mules' 7-1 record through eight games is their second-best ever, topped only by last year's 8-0 start.
