Women's Tennis Sweeps Dickinson in Regular Season Finale, 9-0

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's tennis team put together another impressive performance on Saturday against Dickinson in the regular season finale for both teams. The Fords earned a 9-0 victory to put a cap on the conference slate. The win improved Haverford's record to 10-7 overall and 7-2 in the conference, while Dickinson fell to 6-10 overall and 2-7 in the conference. Haverford has now won four in a row to close out the regular season, and has gone 8-2 over its last 10 matches. 

The Fords dominated doubles competition, winning all three matches. The duo of Mimi Lavin and Ellie Esterowitz secured a quick victory over Izzy Desjardins and Alisa Steele at the second spot with an 8-1 score. Abhishree Menon and Erika Phanord followed suit with an 8-1 win against Dana Kleinman and Annabelle Armendarez at the third position. The top doubles team of Rachael Fitzgerald and Abbey Russano completed the sweep, with an 8-3 win over Martine Fierro and Ariana Goitz.

Haverford carried its momentum into singles competition, with six players earning victories in straight sets. Lavin, the Fords' No. 4 singles player, was the first to finish, winning 6-0, 6-0 against Armendarez. Esterowitz, the No. 1 singles player, quickly followed suit with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Fierro. Annie Barrett defeated Molly Michel 6-1, 6-1 at the sixth position. Abbey Russano won at the No. 2 singles position with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Goitz. Sriya Krishnan, playing at the No. 5 spot on Saturday, secured a 6-3, 6-4 win over Kleinman. Fitzgerald, playing at the No. 3 position, had a tougher match, but ultimately came out on top with a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) win against Steele as she prevailed in the superbreaker after splitting the first two frames with the Red Devils opponent. 

The Fords improved to 18-10 overall against Dickinson, including five consecutive victories in the series.  

Haverford will next host a Centennial Conference First Round playoff contest on Wednesday afternoon against Gettysburg. The time of the match is still to be determined and more tournament information will be made available early next week.
