Volleyball Sweeps Ursinus

The Muhlenberg volleyball team defeated Ursinus in three sets for its third Centennial Conference sweep of the season.

The win put the Mules (9-11, 3-3) squarely in the thick of the CC playoff chase as the season heads into the homestretch. Muhlenberg is one of six teams with two or three losses and is scheduled to face three of the other five in the next two weeks, starting at home vs. Gettysburg on Saturday.

Senior Tara Register recorded five kills in each of the first two sets, finishing with 12 kills and 10 digs for her second straight double-double. She also tied a season high with 4 aces. Senior Madison Forrest added 8 kills.

The Mules were persistent on defense the entire match, recording 70 digs and holding the Bears (6-15, 0-7) to an .042 hitting percentage. Junior Maya Illovsky finished with a match-high 19 digs, while senior Laura Boll (10) and freshman Emma Eglinton (11) also reaching double figures. Eglinton handed out 31 assists.

Muhlenberg was in control for most of the first two sets. Ursinus closed to within 21-17 in the second, but the Mules ran off the last four points, with junior Alycia Long teaming with Register and Eglinton for blocks on the final two points.

The third set was closer. The Bears were within 19-18 before Muhlenberg scored the next two points. The teams traded points, taking the set to 23-20, before kills by senior Maggie Enestvedt and sophomore Lauren Achey ended the match.

Muhlenberg has won 16 straight matches against Ursinus, 12 of them by sweeps.
