Lexie Scholtz and
Rory Cole each recorded a double-double as the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team defeated Dickinson, 69-60 on Saturday afternoon at Goldfarb Gym.
How it Happened
• Cole gave JHU a five-point lead at 8:08 in the first but a 5-0 Red Devils run tied the game at seven. With the game tied at nine, the Blue Jays went on a 7-0 run to pull ahead 16-9 at 3:44. A jumper by Emily Padalino at 1:41 brought Dickinson to within one, however a jumper by
Maggie Spitzer and a three from
Maggie Wodicka gave Johns Hopkins a 22-16 lead after the first quarter.
• Padalino hit a three 30 seconds into the second quarter to bring the Red Devils to within three but
Lillian Scott scored five of the next seven points to make the score 27-21. Cole hit a layup to make it a 10-point game but Dickinson went on a 5-0 run to get to within four at 33-29.
Diarra Oden converted on a layup to make the score 35-29 but Halle Maeda responded with a layup to send the teams into halftime with Johns Hopkins holding a 35-31 lead.
• Back-to-back baskets from Scholtz in the third gave JHU a 44-34 lead at 7:06 but Dickinson got to within eight on a layup from Katie Deutsch. Baskets from Cole and
Madison McGrath gave the Blue Jays a 12-point advantage at 48-36 and Hopkins ended the quarter with a 59-47 lead.
• Oden gave Hopkins its largest lead of the day with her jumper at 6:42 which made the score 63-49. A 6-0 run from Dickinson made the score 65-60 with 1:42 remaining, but Scholtz hit four of her six free throws to give JHU the 69-60 win.
What it Means
• JHU is now 48-28 against the Red Devils as the Blue Jays have won the last four meetings.
• This is the second time this year Cole and Scholtz have both notched a double-double in the same game.
Inside the Box Score
• Along with Cole and Scholtz,
Lillian Scott also scored in double-digits as the senior poured in 14 points in the contest.
• The Hopkins defense held Dickinson to just 32.9% from the floor and 33.3% from deep.
