Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Blanks York to Win Third Straight Match

Gettysburg, Pa. – Freshman Erika Muskus (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains Fanwood) scored the game-winning goal in the 63rd minute to lift the Gettysburg College women's soccer team past York (Pa.) College on a warm and muggy Wednesday night at Clark Field, 1-0.

For the second game in a row, the Bullets shutout their opponent.

Gettysburg outshot the Spartans 15-9, but the two squads tied in corner kicks with four each.

Freshman goalkeeper Madelyn Cunningham (Mount Airy, Md./Linganore) registered her first career start and shutout as a Bullet. She ended the night with six saves.

In the 63rd minute, the Spartans goalkeeper tried to clear the ball, but freshman Molly O'Shea (Reading, Pa./Wilson) intercepted it inside the box and passed it right off to Muskus who gracefully kicked the ball into the middle of the net which was all the offense the Bullets would need. This was Muskus's first career goal in an Orange and Blue uniform.

Gettysburg possessed great ball movement in the second half as most of the play occurred down in the Spartans territory with many open looks at the net. The Bullets finished the second-half outshooting York (Pa.) 9-3. The Bullets defense also did a fantastic job of protecting the back row throughout the entire match.

In the first half, Gettysburg and York (Pa.) tied in shots with six each. The Bullets nearly went in front when Muskus belted a strong kick that went high over the net at the 19th minute.

Gettysburg opens Centennial Conference play this Saturday as they welcome Washington College at 4 p.m.
