Blue Jays Final Four Quest Falls Just Short

William Smith Defeats JHU 2-0 To Earn Spot In Final Four

The Basics 
• Score: #12 Johns Hopkins - 0, William Smith - 2
• Records: JHU (17-3-4) • William Smith (20-1-1)
• Location: Geneva, NY – Cozzens Field
• The Short Story: After a scoreless first half, the Herons were able to put home a pair of second half goals to move on to the Final Four, ending the Blue Jays outstanding season.

How it Happened
• Despite dominating statistically, the Blue Jays were unable to get one past Herons keeper Amanda Kesler, ultimately coming up short in their push for another Final Four appearance.
• Johns Hopkins outshot William Smith 9-0 in the first 45 minutes. However, the Blue Jays were only able to put two of those shots on target, both saved by Kesler. The Blue Jays nearly took the lead early on as Rachel Jackson was set up for a shot in the box, but Kesler punched it away for a corner in the eighth minute.
• In the second half, the Blue Jays once again outshot the Herons, this time 8-3, but William Smith was efficient, scoring on two of their three shots.   
• William Smith finally broke the 0-0 tie in the 59th minute. After a cross into the right side of the box, Julia Keogh finished into the bottom right corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.    
• After assisting on the first goal, Sheila McQuillen received a feed and went bottom right, as well, giving the Herons a 2-0 lead in the 71st minute.
   
What it Means
• The Blue Jays quest to reach their second Final Four in program history falls just short.
• William Smith knocks Johns Hopkins out of the NCAA Tournament for the second time, the first coming back in the 2008 Sweet Sixteen.  
• The Blue Jays finish the season with 17 wins, the 12th time in program history that they've reached that mark.
• The Herons, owners of the longest winning streak in the country, will advance to the Final Four in Greensboro, NC.
 
Inside the Box Score
• Hendricks scoreless streak finally came to an end after 589:20 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal. That streak is seventh-best in program history.
• Johns Hopkins outshot William Smith 17-3 in the contest and took nine corners to the Herons three.
• Maheras finishes her career with 30 goals, tied for 10th in the history of the program.
