The Short Story: Facing a tough level of competition, the Blue Jay women placed 10
th in the gold race at the Louisville Classic on the course in which NCAA Championships are run.
Race Highlights
Ashley Heidenrich continued her outstanding season for Johns Hopkins, finishing 63
rd out of 399 with a 5K time of 17:45.3. Heidenrich moved up 48 spots over the final 3K of the race. Fellow sophomore
Paloma Hancock finished next for Johns Hopkins, crossing the line in 17:55.4, good for 77
th place. Hancock also did some of her best work between the 2K and 4K marks, picking off 37 runners during that stretch.
Sara Stephenson placed 85
th for JHU, finishing in 18:02.4 and moving up seven spots in the final 1.1K.
Lina Spjut followed shortly after Stephenson, crossing the line two seconds later to finish 90
th. Graduate
Diana Vizza rounded out the scoring for JHU, finishing 102
nd with a time of 18:08.1.
Race Notes
- The Blue Jays placed 10th out of 44 in the top race at the event. Hopkins was the top Division III team in the race.
- In 2021, Hopkins has now beaten teams from the Big 10, SEC, Big East and ACC.
- The top-three teams in the gold race were Division I stalwarts: Michigan, Wisconsin and West Virginia.
