Barr Breaks Assist Record, Bullets Hop Past Bryn Mawr

No. 2 Gettysburg dispatches Owls 22-4

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Junior Liza Barr (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) left plenty of treats in the Easter baskets of her teammates, shattering the program record for assists in a game with eight as second-ranked Gettysburg College cruised past Bryn Mawr College 22-4 at Clark Field.

Gettysburg (13-1, 6-1 CC) scored the game's first 13 goals and held significant advantages in shots (34-13) and draw controls (21-6) against Bryn Mawr (5-8, 0-7 CC).

Barr finally broke the record she's been chasing all season and did so in the first 30 minutes of action. The junior attacker had tied the program's previous single-game mark three times this spring, but she bested that in the waning seconds of the first period, dropping off her eighth dime to classmate Ella Orzechowski (Elkridge, Md./Howard) with seven seconds left. She also scored a goal and now has a team-high 88 points this season.

A dozen Bullets cashed in goals Saturday with eight tossing in at least two. Sophomores Kerry McKeever (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) and Bri Stokes (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) each tallied three goals with the former adding an assist and five draw controls. Junior Courtney Patterson (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central) posted two goals, one assist, and six draw controls, while Orzechowski and senior Lauren Cole (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) each recorded two goals and one assist. Junior Maria Nemeth (Westfield, N.J./Westfield), senior Shelby Fragetta (Baltimore, Md./Towson), and freshman Caroline Regan (New Rochelle, N.Y./The Ursuline School) all scored two goals.

McKeever put Gettysburg on the board by scoring in transition 1:45 into the game. The Bullets were off and running from there, netting nine goals over the next six minutes of action. Highlighting the run was a 4-0 run spanning 36 seconds with McKeever going back-to-back on free position shots followed by goals from Stokes and Orzechowski. Cole scored on a feed from McKeever with 22:08 left in the half to make it a 10-0 lead.

Bryn Mawr's first tally come on a free position shot by Kylie Woo with 11:21 on the clock. Gettysburg ended the first half on a four-goal run with Barr assisting on the final two to break the program record.

The hosts emptied the bench in the second half and received a goal from sophomore Kerry Ullman (Fairfield, Conn./Academy of Our Lady of Mercy Lauralton Hall) and two goals each from Regan and Fragetta. The Bullets only took seven shots in the second half and let the possession clock run out four times.

With senior goalie Bailey Pilder (Rowayton, Conn./New Canaan) getting the day off, the remaining three Gettysburg keepers saw near-equal time between the pipes. Junior Abbie Lee (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) played the first 20 minutes and logged a pair of stops, while classmate Casey Cole (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) posted a trio of saves at the end of the first half and beginning of the second. Freshman Riley Kaufman (Berkley Heights, N.J./Kent Place) closed out the final 19:39 in goal.

Gettysburg opens the final week of the regular season at McDaniel College on Wednesday, April 24, at 4 p.m.
