STATEMENT WIN: No. 1 Men's Basketball Thumps G'burg

SWARTHMORE, Pa.— Despite being the team's leading scorer, No. 1 Swarthmore College Men's Basketball still racked up 95 points in a blowout win at home against Gettysburg College on Saturday.

Swarthmore jumped out to a demoralizing 17-2 lead in the first six minutes and never looked back in the 95-63 win. The Garnet remain unbeaten with an 8-0 overall record and a 3-0 record in Centennial Conference play. Gettysburg, now losers of two straight, dropped to 6-2 and 1-2 in conference.

The Garnet hurled 33 3-point attempts and connected on 15 of them (45.5 percent). Junior sharpshooter Conor Harkins started for the second game in a row and finished with a game-high 22 points after sinking 6-of-12 3-pointers.  

Freshman big Michael Caprise showed off his ability to stretch the floor by sinking all four of his attempts from beyond the arc. He shot 7-of-8 overall and had 18 points and seven rebounds in 16 minutes.

In total, five players reached double-figures for Swarthmore. Colin Shaw connected on three triples and tallied up 15 points and five rebounds. Freshman Vinny DeAngelo played a season-high 27 minutes and registered 13 points and four assists. Nate Shafer netted 10 points in just 15 minutes and also came down with five boards.

Zac O'Dell nearly had another double-double as the All-American scored nine points and collected 10 rebounds.

Freshman TJ Chapman added five points in the final three minutes of the game, and Ryan Ingram added three more.

The Garnet gobbled up 45 rebounds and only saved 22 for the visitors.

Swarthmore finished with a 56.3 percent mark shooting from the floor and limited Gettysburg to a 37.7 percent clip.

Swarthmore's lead ballooned to as large as 39 points with 6:37 remaining in the second half.

Next up for Swarthmore is a date with fellow 8-0 team Johns Hopkins on Tuesday night at 8 p.m.
