Hopkins Rounds Out Non-Conference Play With 4-2 Win Over PSU Berks

Blue Jays Win Fourth-Straight Contest

The Basics
Score: #6 Johns Hopkins - 4, Penn State Berks, - 2
Records: JHU (6-1-1) • PSU Berks (2-5)
Location: Reading, PA
The Short Story: Emily Maheras scores two first-half goals to lead #6 Hopkins to their fourth straight victory.

How it Happened
• Emily Maheras scored her team-leading sixth and seventh goals of the 2019 season in the first half. The first goal came on a header off a Maggie Coulson free-kick to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute. Maheras followed with another goal in the 26th minute, this time with another header off a Maddy Rocks corner-kick.
• PSU Berks was able to respond shortly after, cutting it to 2-1 in the 27th minute on Alexis Schoener's first of two goals, a rebound off the crossbar.
• Hopkins freshman, Jenny Zwerling, added her first career goal in the 34th minute, sending a free-kick inside the left post for a 3-1 lead.
• Riley O'Toole added her first goal of the season in the 48th minute, dribbling to the end-line and knocking it in off the keeper to give Hopkins a 4-1 lead before ultimately prevailing 4-2. O'Toole missed much of the 2018 season with a knee injury.

What it Means
• The Blue Jays finish non-conference play on a four-game winning streak, ending an eight game road stretch with just one loss.
• Head Coach Leo Weil wins his 399th game, giving him a chance to win his 400th career game at Homewood Field on Saturday.
• The Blue Jays have won both of their all-time matchups with Penn State Berks.

Inside the Box Score
• Maheras is the first Blue Jay this year to score multiple goals in a game.
Maheras also joins an exclusive list, becoming just the ninth player in Hopkins history to scorea goal in five straight games.
O'Toole's first goal of the season puts her at 21 for her career, one goal ahead of Maheras in the record books.

Up Next
• The Blue Jays will defend their home turf, Homewood Field, for the first time all season on Saturday afternoon. Johns Hopkins vs Bryn Mawr will kick-off at 3 p.m., beginning the 2019 Centennial Conference season for both teams.
