Blue Jays match program record with 16th straight win to open season

The Basics
• Score: #16 Johns Hopkins – 3 • Haverford – 0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-14)
• Records: #16 Johns Hopkins (16-0) • Haverford – (15-5)
• Location: Haverford, PA • Gooding Arena
• The Short Story: The 16th-ranked Johns Hopkins volleyball team matched a program record with its 16th consecutive win to open the season, knocking off Haverford Saturday afternoon in three sets.

How it Happened

SET ONE
• Simone Bliss opened the match with back-to-back kills to open the scoring for Hopkins. The Blue Jays would jump out to a 4-1 before the Fords responded with three unanswered points.
• A back-and-forth opening set continued as Louisa Kishton followed a Lauren Anthony kill from the middle with a pair of kills from the left side to open up a 9-4 advantage for Hopkins. Haverford again would respond to trim the deficit to 9-7.
• Four consecutive Hopkins points forced Haverford to call timeout with the Jays leading 13-7. Bliss would tack on two more kills out of the timeout to extend the lead to 15-7, and give Hopkins the cushion they needed.
• Hopkins would hit a modest .268 in the first set and finished off the Fords 25-17 to take a one set lead.

SET TWO
• The trend of hot starts continued for Hopkins in the second set, with the Jays racing out to a quick 10-3 advantage. It was a balanced attack once again with Bliss, Kishton, Hannah Korslund, and Eleni Panagopoulos all tallying kills during the early run.
• Haverford would get to within four at 10-6, but no closer from that point.
• The Fords gave Hopkins 11 points on errors in the second frame, hitting at a -.094 clip. Hopkins upped their hitting percentage to .320 in the second, and won the set 25-12.

SET THREE
• It looked like Hopkins was going to run away with the third after jumping out to a 6-1 lead, but Haveford would fight back to score four straight and cut the lead to 6-5.
• Nicole Hada then stepped to the service line and strung together six consecutive Blue Jay points to up the lead back to 12-5. Hada would record an ace to go along with three assists and a season-high 16 digs in her second match back from injury.
• The sides would exchange points until Hopkins commanded the match for good with a 5-0 run to balloon the lead to 22-13.
• Natalie Aston's third kill of the afternoon closed out the match 25-14.

Inside the Box Score
• Anthony was a force in the middle for Hopkins, totaling nine kills on a .529 hitting percentage, while also adding seven blocks which matched her career-high.
• The Blue Jays continued their offensive efficiency, eclipsing the .300 mark for the fifth straight match and tenth time this season.
• Hopkins never trailed at any point in the match and have only dropped six sets all season.

What it Means
• Hopkins has now won six straight matches against the Fords dating back to 2014 and extends its all-time lead in the series to 25-11.
• The 16-match winning streak to start the season matches the program-record for the longest unbeaten streak to open the season. In head coach Matt Troy's final year of his first stint at Johns Hopkins, the Blue Jays also opened the 2012 season with a 16-0 record.
