CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Kelly Piotrowicz reached a major milestone and the Ursinus College volleyball team saved its best stuff for the biggest points, outlasting Washington College in a pair of marathon sets on the way to a 3-1 Centennial Conference victory, their first of the season.

Piotrowicz notched a triple-double with 17 assists, 17 digs, and 13 kills and reached 1,000 digs for her career in the process, a cherry on top of the best match of the season for Ursinus (7-17, 1-8). The senior co-captain is the first player in program history to record 1,000 digs, 1,000 assists, and 500 kills for a career.

After dropping the first set, 25-21, the Bears staved off two set points in each of the next two frames, snatching 27-25 and 26-24 decisions before closing out the Shorewomen with a 25-19 score in the fourth. The victory was Ursinus' first over Washington College since 2011 and the Bears' first in Chestertown since 2008.

Piotrowicz' historic night was just one of several terrific performances for the Bears. Rachael Girard was an assist short of a triple-double of her own with 13 kills and 13 digs, while Luca Walborn tallied a double-double with 21 assists and 12 digs. Fellow rookie Katie Cressman powered her way to a dozen kills.

Washington College (7-18, 1-8) took the first set and was a point away from a 2-0 lead, serving at 24-22. Piotrowicz kept the Bears alive with a kill, then set up back-to-back kills by Girard and Cressman. After the Shorewomen fought off a set point of their own, Piotrowicz had the assist on consecutive kills by Miranda Foster as Ursinus pulled level.

The Bears found themselves in the same position in the pivotal third set, trailing 24-22 on the Washington College serve. A service error made it 24-23, and Foster combined on back-to-back blocks to turn the tide and give Ursinus a set point. The visitors capitalized as Cressman finished off a feed from Piotrowicz.

All of the momentum in their corner, the Bears led almost the whole way in the fourth set and got over the finish line for the landmark CC triumph.

Ursinus was remarkably efficient in the second set, logging a .348 hitting percentage with 19 kills to just three errors.  The Bears hit .206 for the night, their second-best total of the year.

The volleyball team looks to wrap up the season with a second consecutive conference victory when the Bears travel to the Main Line for a Saturday matinee at Bryn Mawr.
