COLLEGEVILLE, PA. - The Ursinus College baseball team scored four runs over the final two frames but were unable to overcome an early deficit as Haverford escaped Thomas Field with a 10-6 victory.

With the loss, the Bears fell to 12-24 overall and 4-12 in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Fords improved to 18-17 on the season and 9-7 in conference play.

Senior Tim Pyne led the Bears at the plate going 3 for 5 with an RBI while Solomon Griffith and Dylan Crammer each picked up two hits.

Haverford jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after an error with two outs allowed Zach Becker to cross the plate. Ursinus quickly responded in the bottom half of the frame after a single from Peter Balos scored Griffith from second. In the second inning, the Fords added four more runs from four hits and one error. Haverford used three more runs in the third inning and controlled an 8-1 lead after back-to-back batters were awarded free passes.

In the fourth inning, a Tim Pyne single scored Nick Diaz from second to make the score 8-2. With just one out and the bases loaded Haverford's starter Martin Matsumura escaped the jam recording back-to-back strikeouts. The Fords added two more insurance runs in the seventh inning, stretching their lead to eight after a walk with the bases loaded, scored a run and a sacrifice fly from Anthony Runfola brought home another.

The Bears continued to battle throughout the late innings as Diaz drove in a pair with a single to right field to make the score 10-4. In the ninth inning, Crammer doubled down the right field line to bring home Pyne from second and cut the deficit to just five. Freshman Jakob Cantor grounded out to third base but earned an RBI after Andrew Richter crossed the plate to make the score 10-6. Ursinus loaded the bases with two outs, bringing the tying run to the plate but a strikeout ended the rally.

During the contest, Ursinus was unable to capitalize on early baserunners as the Fords pitching staff stranded 17 runners on base. T.J. Snyder, Matt Tuley, and David Kratz combined for eight innings on the mound while allowing just five earned runs. Kratz closed out the final 2.2 innings without allowing a hit and striking out one batter.

The Bears will return to action tomorrow as they travel to Gettysburg for a conference doubleheader starting at noon.
