Softball drops a pair of games at the Spring Games

Clermont, FL-- The MCLA Softball team continued their spring trip this afternoon with a doubleheader at Legends Way in Clermont, FL.  The Trailblazers dropped the opener to Franklin and Marshall 11-2 in the opener before Cortland State blanked MCLA 10-0 in the nightcap.

MCLA is now 0-7 on the season.

Game One:  Franklin & Marshall 11, MCLA 2

MCLA fell behind early in this one as the Diplomats scored five times in the top of the first to take the early 5-0 lead.  They would tack on three more in the second, another in the third, and two in the fifth to increase the lead to 11-0 before MCLA finally found some offense.

The Trailblazers finally strung together some hits in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Sydney Matthews delivered the key hit in the frame as her double to center field brought around two runs and MCLA trailed 11-2.  The Trailblazers threatened for more however the Diplomats induced a fly out to end the inning.

Neither team would score in the fifth and Franklin and Marshall earned the shortened victory.

MCLA's Justina Pardi was saddled with the loss on the mound.

Game Two: Cortland St. 10, MCLA 0

The Trailblazers could not muster up any offense in this one as Maddie Teta led off the game with an infield single.  It would turn out to be the only hit of the game for MCLA.

Lindsey Richards was dealing for the Red Dragons as she went the distance and struck out eight Trailblazers.

Cortland scored a run in the first inning for the early 1-0 lead.  The Red Dragon offense would erupt in the third inning as they pushed across five runs against MCLA starter Sarah Williams.  Cortland would lead 6-0 after three innings and then put the game out of reach with three more runs in the fourth.

Richards did the rest as she racked up two more strikeouts in the fifth to earn the win.

MCLA will play Minnesota-Morris tomorrow at 5pm up in Leesburg.  The game is a makeup from earlier in the week.
