ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Jan. 21, 2022) – The USMMA wrestling team had a great day up at the 21st Annual New York State Intercollegiate Open, hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday. A total of nine Mariners earned All-State accolades with top-eight finishes in their respective brackets, including two who placed third in their main/black brackets.

Meet Links
Sophomores
Cade Cowley (Boulder City, Nev.) and
Reid Garrison (Broadway, Va.) led the way for Merchant Marine on the day. Cowley came in third in the 184-pound black bracket after going 3-1 with a pin in the third-place match, while Garrison placed third in the 285 black bracket
finishing with a 4-1 record with a pin and a major decision.

Four other Mariners placed in the black brackets – sophomore
Eddie Pinc (Medina, Ohio) came in fourth at 149 (4-1 with two falls), classmate
Charlie Lausten (Ashburn, Va.) placed sixth at 141 (2-3 with one pin), freshman
Ivan Corral (Oak Forest, Ill.) was also sixth at 165 (2-3) and senior
James Cruz (Belleville, N.J.) came in seventh at 197 (1-2 with a win over a ranked opponent from Brockport).

In the white brackets, sophomore
Jimmy Dunagan (Boulder City, Nev.) secured two pins at 184 to reach the first place match and finished second, classmate
Zachery Fultz (Silver Spring, Md.) placed third at 197 (3-1 with one pin) and fellow sophomore
Eric DeWald (Marshall, Va.) came in fourth at 184 (2-2 with one fall and one major decision).

Up next, the Mariners will open up Centennial Conference action when Gettysburg hosts the first weekend of conference duals next Saturday, Jan. 28. USMMA will face the host Bullets and Ursinus College in dual matches at the event which is slated to begin at 11 a.m. If any live links for the duals are available they will be posted on
