THE LEADERS
•
Luke Kowalski (Derwood, Md./St. John's College) led the Bullets with two wins on the day, both by first-period fall.
FOR THE FOES
• Cade Cowley led the Mariners in the first match with a pin at 184.
• Jake Ahmad closed the day, leading the Bears with a fall at heavyweight.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• After
Antonio Abate (Northvale, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) started the Merchant Marine match with a forfeit win at 125,
Luke Kowalski pushed the lead to 12-0 with a 1-minute, 29-second fall at 133.
•
Jake Stein (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) made it 15-0 with a 5-1 win at 141 before
Eric Mougalian (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) escaped with a 9-7 sudden-victory win. Eddie Pinc earned a takedown and advantage point with 10 seconds left in regulation to force the extra period before Mougalian got the winning takedown midway through the period.
•
Heath Rudolph (Winchester, Va./Roanoke) and
Justin Richey (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) recorded a pair of close decisions at 157 (6-3) and 165 (7-5), respectively, to push the lead to 24-0.
• A late takedown secured a 15-6 major decision for
Cooper Leszczuk (The Village of Indian Hill, Ohio/Indian Hill) before Cade Cowley got a pin at the end of the first period at 184 to make it 28-6. James Cruz added a 16-4 major decision at 197 before Reid Garrison wrapped up the day with a 12-3 major decision at heavyweight.
• In the final match against Ursinus, Frank Mazza staked the Bears to a 4-0 lead in the match with a 10-1 victory at 125. Kowalski responded, however, with a 1-minute, 16-second pin to put the hosts in front, 6-4. Wesley Tosto and Mougalian traded major decisions to keep it a two-point Gettysburg lead after 149. Tosto won 12-1 at 141 before Mougalian took a 13-3 win at 149.
• Shane Franczyk edged out a 6-5 win at 157 before Shawn Marchesano recorded a 19-7 victory at 165 to made it a 15-10 score.
Justin Richey closed the gap to two with a 7-5 win at 174 but a Gary Nagle 10-2 win at 184 stretched the lead to six.
• In a bout that featured no offense through seven minutes – just a pair of escapes – Kyle Schaeffer wasted little time to get a takedown in sudden victory to notch a 3-1 win at 197 and secure the victory. Jake Ahmad closed out the day with a pin midway through the second period.
