The Basics

• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's basketball team held off visiting Dickinson, 65-58, to head into the holiday break with a six-game win streak.
 
How it Happened
• Hopkins trailed early, but took control with a 16-2 run that spanned just four minutes and saw the Blue Jays go up 16-6. Junior Harry O'Neil fueled the run with 10 of the Blue Jays' points, including a pair of three-pointers.
• Dickinson ended the run with a triple from Elijah Wright and a Mike Hinckley layup to slice the deficit in half at the 11:16-mark. Sophomore Conner Delaney answered with five straight points, followed by a Michael Gardner pull-up jumper and just like that Hopkins led 25-13.
• The Red Devils kept battling and trimmed the Blue Jays' lead back to five with a 7-0 spurt, capped by a Hinckley fast-break layup. Hopkins once again answered and pushed its lead back to 10 with 4:24 to go in the half. Dickinson put together another 7-0 spurt, punctuated with a corner three from Ryan Robinson with five ticks on the clock, and it was a 32-29 game at the half.
• The Blue Jays opened the second half with a 16-5 run as they stormed out to a 48-34 lead with 12:05 to play. The lead would fluctuate from as high as 14 to as low as six points as the teams traded runs for the remainder of the game. Hopkins would seal the win at the free throw line, going six-of-eight in the final 54 seconds.
 
What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 48-35 all-time against Dickinson and has won three straight in the series. The three straight wins are the most for the Blue Jays against the Red Devils since they won 12 straight from January 2005 to December 2010.
• At 5-0 in the Centennial Conference, Hopkins now has a two-game lead on the five teams tied for second in the standings.
 
Inside the Box Score
• Senior Daniel Vila led four Blue Jays in double figures with 14 points, while also grabbing six boards. O'Neil finished with 12 points and Delaney added 11. Freshman Braeden Johnson chipped in 10 points, including going 5-of-6 from the free throw line at the end of the game.
• Senior Joey Fitzpatrick grabbed a game and career-best 10 rebounds and as Hopkins outrebounded Dickinson, 38-27.
• Wright led the Red Devils with a game-high 15 points while Hinckley added 13 points and seven rebounds.
• Hopkins held Dickinson 17 points below its season average as the Red Devils shot just 38 percent from the field.
