Women's Soccer Stopped By No. 25 Tartans In NCAAs

PITTSBURGH, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Soccer had its 2019 season come to an end in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Sunday night at Carnegie Mellon University. The Garnet (13-6) fell to the 25th-ranked Tartans (13-5-1) by a score of 1-0.

Swarthmore has now finished in the second round of the NCAA Tournament or further in each of the past five seasons.

The host Tartans scored the game's lone goal in the 29th minute with a shot from the left of the box by Jocelyn Mayer. In total, the Tartans tallied 13 shots to Swarthmore's six. Senior Brittany Weiderhold took a pair of shots as did Sophia Stills. Maddy Carens and Lizzy King each registered a shot.

Weiderhold took a shot on a counter-attack in the 17th minute that forced a diving save.

Chantal Reyes recorded two saves in goal for the Garnet and her opposite Andrea Sipos also recorded two saves.

Swarthmore also had a chance on a pass across the box in the second half, but couldn't connect to send it home. King had a chance in the 68th minute, but it was turned away.

The Garnet wrap up 2019 with a 13-6 record and out-scored their opponents 36-18.
