GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Dickinson women's swimming team began their 2022-23 campaign by going 2-1 at the Centennial West Quad Meet hosted by Gettysburg College at Bullets Pool. The Devils knocked off Bryn Mawr (174-85) and Washington (Md.) (170-87), but dropped a 160-99 decision to the host Bullets.
Dickinson began the day with a third-place result in the 200-yard medley relay as the team of
Olivia Abbott-Havers,
Bella Gerkin, Tori May, and
Isabel McGovern clocked in at 1:53.54. The group of
Sydney Farling,
Sarah McHenry,
Sarah Mulcahy, and
Norah Wilson took sixth with a time of 1:56.79.
Caroline Christianson gave a solid showing in the 1000-yard freestyle as her mark of 11:13.05 was good for second.Â
Abbott-Havers claimed a victory for the Red and White during the 200-yard freestyle by touching the wall in 1:57.19.
Carrington Bowles (2:14.73) and
Annelyse Warner (2:17.07) also participated in the event.
May earned a podium spot in the 100-yard backstroke finishing third with a time of 1:02.58, while McHenry was two seconds behind her in fourth at 1:04.10. Isobell O'Connell rounded out the Top-10 in 1:07.27.
Gerkin completed the Top-5 in the 100-yard breaststroke by hitting the wall in 1:13.15. Farling was two spots back at 1:13.75.
The Devils showed off a solid one-two punch of first-years during the 200-yard butterfly as McGovern won the event with a time of 2:11.23 holding off her teammate
Emma Johnston at 2:12.89. Another rookie
Molly Tate finished seventh in 2:23.91.
DC won their third event of the day when
Caroline Wasielevski touched the pad in 25.38. Wilson finished in seventh at 26.16, while
Margot Armstrong took 11th in 27.51.
Abbott-Havers picked up her second freestyle win when she bested the 15 athlete field in the 100-yard event with a time of 53.86. Wasielevski rounded out the Top-5 by touching the wall in 56.84.Â
Christianson (2:18.90) and McHenry (2:21.57) occupied fifth and seventh in 200-yard backstroke. O'Connell (2:29.51) and
Julia Ciesielka (2:33.27) also competed for the Devils.
Mulcahy was the highest finishing Devil during the 200-yard breaststroke taking fourth in 2:40.38, followed by Gerkin and Farling at 2:41.60 and 2:42.54 respectively. Â
Dickinson won their third freestyle event of the meet when Johnston hit the wall in 5:20.21 to hold off her next closest competitor by three seconds.Â
McGovern earned another win during the 100-yard butterfly thanks to her time of 58.62. Armstrong took up tenth with a mark of 1:04.29 and
Margie Winter finished in 1:08.37.
The young guns continued to show up big for the Red and White as May won the 200-yard individual medley by stopping the clock in 2:17.72, while Mulcahy landed outside the Top-5 in seventh at 2:26.75.
The Devils wrapped up the day with strong showing in the 400-yard freestyle relay as the team of Abbott-Havers, McGovern, Wasielevski, and Wilson posted a time of 3:41.55 for second.

Dickinson (2-1, 2-1 Centennial) gets back to work next Saturday, October 29th when they head to Westminster, Maryland for a matchup with McDaniel College.Â
