Women’s Soccer Powers Past Franklin & Marshall

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Three different Bullets scored a goal to lead the Gettysburg College women's soccer team to a crucial victory over Centennial Conference opponent Franklin & Marshall College on Wednesday night at Clark Field, 5-0.

Coming into tonight's match, Gettysburg and Haverford College were both tied for fourth in the Centennial Conference standings. Both teams played tonight and each won their match, keeping them now tied for third in the league standings.

The Bullets (7-3-2, 4-1-1- CC) controlled the match from start to finish, outshooting the Diplomats 29-3.

Freshman Erika Muskus (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains Fanwood) provided the Bullets with all the scoring they would need, chipping in a quick shot to the right side of the net 11 minutes into the opening half. The goal was set up by fellow classmate Emma Bedell (Chatham, N.J./Mount Saint Mary), who dished a cross from the left side.

The Bullets exploded in the second half as they tacked on four more goals with the first coming five minutes into the frame. Freshman Molly O'Shea (Reading, Pa./Wilson) knotted her sixth goal of the season as senior Hannah Hallos (Matawan, N.J./Old Bridge) delivered a cross from the left side to O'Shea who kicked the ball into the right side of the net.

Bedell collected her second assists of the night as she connected with Muskus again who pounded her second goal 13 minutes later to extend the lead 3-0. Bedell now has three assists on the season, while Muskus ties a team-high in points (five goals, four assists).

Senior Samantha Esposito (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) netted the final two goals for the Orange and Blue at the 79th and 84th minute, respectively. Junior Charlotte Cenatiempo (Weston, Conn./Weston) was credited with Esposito's first goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Madelyn Cunningham (Mount Airy, Md./Linganore) started in goal and did not need to make a save for the last 55 minutes of action as she ended the night with one stop.

Gettysburg continues home play as they host Muhlenberg College in a critical Centennial Conference match on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
