ORLANDO, Fla. - The Haverford College men's tennis team (3-2) was tripped up by a strong North Carolina Wesleyan (10-0) side, the No. 9 team in the 2021 year end rankings, falling by a 9-0 final at the USTA National Campus on Wednesday. No stranger to Centennial Conference foes, the Battling Bishops reached and hosted the NCAA Regional Final a season ago before falling to Johns Hopkins.

The contest started with the Battling Bishops running out to a 3-0 advantage after doubles, as Haverford's pairings of Jason Edmonds/Stefan Johnson, George Jiang/Jackson Trevor, and Adam Chow/Patrick Kley were defeated despite grabbing some early games. Haverford saw perhaps its best performances of the morning at No. 2 singles as Andreas Wingert fell 6-4, 6-3 and at No. 3 singles as Johnson put up a battle against Juan Vallejo before falling 6-3, 6-4.

Abhinav Nallapareddy rallied after dropping his first set 6-0, making Augusto Roca of NC Wesleyan work hard to dispatch him, getting to four games at the sixth flight.

The second contest of the day, originally slated to pit the Fords against Wittenberg, was cancelled due to heavy rains and thunderstorms that descended upon the Orlando area, upending a packed day of matches slated at the USTA campus.

Haverford now returns to action on Friday March 11, with matchups slated against Manhattanville (8 a.m.) and defending national semifinalist Case Western Reserve (12 p.m.) as action in Central Florida wraps up.
