LANCASTER, Pa. -- Swarthmore College Women's Indoor Track and Field junior
Sydney Covitz has now won an event in both of her team's meets to open the 2018-19 season. On Saturday afternoon at the Coach I Open hosted by Franklin & Marshall College, Covitz took home first place of 22 competitors in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.45.
Covitz, a starter on Swarthmore's nationally-prominent women's soccer team in addition to her role on the track & field team, also won the 800-meter run at the Haverford Holiday Meet on Dec. 9.
Junior
Naomi Bronkema, named the Centennial Conference Field Athlete of the Week on Dec. 10, placed third in the high jump on Saturday by clearing a bar at 1.47m (4 ft 9.75in). Bronkema is a multi athlete that competed in the weight throw and shot put at the Coach I Open as well. Her weight throw of 12.43m is a new school record.
The Garnet will split up for its next meets on Jan. 26 as some of its athletes will head to Haverford College for the McElligott Invite and others will travel to Widener College for the Widener Field Meet.
