CHESTER, Pa. - Swarthmore College Outdoor Track & Field athletes
Jared Hunt and
Daniel Belkin resumed their incredible senior seasons at the Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University on Friday and Saturday.
Hunt set the Swarthmore record in the discus with a launch of 45.30 meters (148 feet 7 inches) to garner second place of about 30 competitors. He also won first place of 40-plus athletes in the shot put at 15.02m (49 ft 3.5 in). Hunt already broke the school record in both the indoor and outdoor shot put before this weekend. He currently ranks fifth in Division III in the shot put, and his discus throw will likely land him somewhere in the top 20.
Belkin, known primarily for his jumping abilities, took seventh place of over 100 runners in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.86 seconds. That's the fourth-best time in Swarthmore history. Belkin did not disappoint in the high jump either as he cleared a bar sitting at 1.90 meters (6 ft 2.75 in) to place fourth.
The season picks back up for Hunt, Belkin and the rest of the Garnet on April 5 and 6 as the team heads in separate directions to Princeton University's Distance Night and West Chester University's Invitational.
