SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Lacrosse trailed No. 6 Gettysburg College by just one goal with 8:39 left in the third quarter. The Garnet, however, were denied the chance to repeat their 2017 upset of the Bullets. The Bullets struck for six straight goals in the third and fourth to put the game out of reach.

Swarthmore fell 12-6 and dipped to 6-3 overall and 1-2 in conference.

Austin Chang led Swarthmore with four goals and upped his team-leading total to 19. Sophomore Nick Filippelli scored his first collegiate goal, and freshman Mason Evarts added his fifth goal of the season. Cam Marsh set up three of those goals and now has 17 assists on the year.

Gettysburg recorded double-digit shots in each quarter and finished with 51 total attempts. Swarthmore tallied 26 shots.

Jack Fletcher and Jack Harvey both netted hat tricks for Gettysburg.

John Calia recorded 14 saves for Swarthmore in the loss.

Swarthmore trailed 2-0 after the first quarter but Chang connected for the first two scores of the second period. 

Gettysburg then ran out for four straight goals, but Swarthmore closed out the first half on a high note with Filippelli finding the back of the net with 41 seconds left.

Swarthmore then scored the first two goals of the third quarter as well and trailed 6-5 with 8:39 to play in the period.

Gettysburg, however, went on a tear and scored the next three goals of the third and fourth periods. 

Chang netted his fourth goal with 2:38 left in the game to cap off the score at 12-6.

Swarthmore travels to Muhlenberg College on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. conference game.
