Baseball Wins First Game of Season on Day 1 of Spring Trip

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fl. - La Roche baseball opened up the Snowbird Classic Spring Break Tournament with a win against well-renowned Swarthmore College, 5-4. The victory is the Redhawks first of the season and the first for Interim Head Coach Sean Lubin. The Redhawks will face the Garnet two more times this week (3/10 & 3/11), both games are at noon.

Senior RHP Tre Thomas (Ambridge, PA/Ambridge) started the game and got his first win of the season. Thomas gave up just one run, pitching 6.1 innings and striking out six batters while only walking one. Tre threw 80 pitches, 55 of them were strikes.

Four different Redhawks posted at least one RBI, led by Sophomore OF Tyler Simpson (State College, PA/State College Area) who drilled in two runs off a single.

Sophomore INF Ryan Lynn (Butler, PA/Butler) had a great day at the plate, going 3-5 recording two singles, a double and an RBI.

Austin Hoffman and Jason Swope also had RBI singles.

Senior relief RHP Jake Seymour (Allison Park, PA/Hampton) came in to the game in the sixth inning and delivered a solid performance (2.2 IP, 1 K, 1 BB, 3 ER).

As a unit, LRU out-hit Swarthmore 14-10. The Redhawks fended off a late three run surge by the Garnet to hold on and win their first game of 2020.

UP NEXT: LRU will take on potentially their toughest opponent of the tournament tomorrow morning against nationally ranked Heidelberg (20). Game-time is set for 11:00 a.m.
