EWING, N.J.—With 816 points, No. 16 Swarthmore College Men's Swimming finished in third place at the three-day meet at TCNJ this weekend. The Garnet trailed No. 20 TCNJ (1,310 points) and No. 22 US Merchant Marine (929.5 points), but finished ahead of SUNY New Paltz (295 points).
The Garnet registered 12 personal best times and 43 season bests while capturing first in one event, second in six events and third in nine heats.
Freshman Ben Freeman earned gold for Swarthmore in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:42.48 that's currently fourth in the Centennial this year. Freeman's 500 free time of 4:42.52 is third-best among league swimmers this year and was fourth at this weekend's meet. His 16:35.13 in the 1,650 took third at TCNJ and is also third in the Centennial.
Swarthmore took places two through five in the 200 IM finals.
Sophomore Alec Lawless swam to second in the 50 free, darting out to a time of 21.39.
Swarthmore finished in second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:35.20, second in the 800 free relay (6:58.50), and third in the 200 free relay (1:25.51) and 400 free relay (3:11.05).
Horace Shew and Jeremy Rockaway both finished faster than one minute in the 100 breast to place in the top five.
The Garnet had four spots in the top eight of the 200 fly finals including Rockaway who took second with a time of 1:54.48. His time is also second-fastest in the Centennial.
Swarthmore picks up the season again in 2020 with a quad meet against WPI, Johns Hopkins and Rowan on Jan. 18.
