Meet Highlights
- Gettysburg dominated the opening event, the 400 medley relay. Junior Nick Cox (Purcellville, Va./Ponte Vedra) exploded off the wall and turned in a time of 52.64 in the opening backstroke leg and Nonemaker followed up with a 59.08 split during the breaststroke. After senior Oliver Pickering (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) extended the lead to over six seconds with a 52.72 split in the butterfly, freshman Cort Hobelmann (Nashville, Tenn./Owensboro Catholic) posted a final split of 47.2 as the team closed with a nearly eight-second win at 3:31.64.
- Nonemaker, who contributed to three wins in a dual at McDaniel College Friday night, was just getting started. He turned in the only sub-minute time in the 100 breast (59.33) and sped his way to the wall in 47.85 in the 100 free. The senior closed his day by posting the best splits in each of the four segments of the 200 IM and out-ran the field by nearly three seconds at 1:58.26.
- Cox, Pickering, and senior Duncan Proxmire (McLean, Va./Langley) were all double-winners individually for the Bullets. Cox easily won both backstroke races, finishing in 52.48 in the 100 and going 1:58.76 in the 200, but the junior was denied an individual hat trick by Pickering in the 100 fly. The senior won the battle with a time of 53.00, finishing just ahead of Cox's 53.48. That was the second win of the day for Pickering, who also won the 200 fly with a time of 1:57.94.
- Proxmire posted wins in the 200 free and 500 free. In the former race, he held off a hard-charging Kolin Hoffman from Mary Washington with a time of 1:45.02. His second individual race wasn't nearly as close as he won by nearly seven seconds over sophomore Luke McKenna (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford Area) with a time of 4:44.84. McKenna started out his day by winning the 1,000 free by more than 23 seconds at 10:01.36.
- Gettysburg's remaining wins came from Hobelmann and sophomore Charlie Cross (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle). Hobelmann finished in front of three Eagles in the 50 free at 21.77, while Cross raced past the field in the 200 breast, winning by nearly four seconds at 2:12.69.
