TUCSON, Ariz. — California Lutheran University softball opened its Arizona road trip with a sweep as the Regals took down the Dickinson Red Devils 11-9 and 8-7 on Monday afternoon.

The games are two of six in Arizona. The Regals also play Viterbo, Dakota St. and Dickinson two more times. Cal Lutheran is now 4-14 on the year.

Madison Gunn pitched the whole game for the Regals and got her first win of the season. In the 7.0 innings, she struck out five, and gave up 12 hits and nine runs.

The Cal Lutheran bats had her back, fueled by a big six-run fourth inning. The Regals were down 2-0 early after the first inning, but responded and the game was tied at 3 after three.

In the fourth, Mia Garcia, Mia Onesto, Makayla Lopez, Ariana Mendoza, Hanna Booth and Natalie Luna each tallied a RBI. The Regals scored one more in the fifth and sixth and held on in the seventh to win.

Luna and Lopez both had a team-high three RBI. Lopez had four hits and Mendoza, Regan Laubscher and Nyberg had two more each. Mendoza and Garcia both had a double and Laubscher hit a triple.

In game two, Lopez and Mendoza led their squad with a homerun each. Lopez added a double while Booth had two and Emily Blank connected on one more.

Garcia started the game and the Red Devils got to her right away. They put up four runs as Garcia was pulled after one inning.

Taryn Faull came in relief and got her first win as she went 6.0 innings with five strikeouts. She gave seven hits, but just one earned runs.

After the four runs by Dickinson, the Regals came back with five runs in the bottom of the second. Blank, Gunn, Onesto and Lopez supplied the firepower in the inning.

Lopez homered in the fourth to make it a 7-5 game and Mendoza pushed to 8-5 as she hit hers in the sixth. The homeruns proved to be the final say as the Red Devils scored two in the top of the seventh. The Regals hung on and swept the Red Devils.

The Regals continue the Arizona trip on Tuesday with Viterbo at 10 a.m. and Dakota St. at 12:15 p.m.
