SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore College Softball extended its winning streak to seven on Saturday with two wins over Centennial Conference opponent Gettysburg College.
The Garnet (17-8, 5-2) have matched their win total from all of last season, and they still have nine games left to complete on their schedule. They're currently in second place in the conference.
Game One: Swarthmore 5, Gettysburg 4
Swarthmore was down 1-0 in the top of the third inning when
Gwen Glatz continued her amazing freshman season with a three-RBI double to left field.
The Bullets bounced back by scoring one in the third and two in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead.
Sophomore starting pitcher
Maddie Bowe helped herself out by going 2-for-3 at the plate with a run-scoring single to tie the game in the sixth. And senior leader
Marit Vike scored the game-winning run on a passed ball in the top of the seventh.
Glatz pitched three innings in relief and surrendered just one run to bring her team-best record to 6-2 this season. She also went 2-for-4.
Game Two: Swarthmore 7, Gettysburg 5
A five-run third inning proved to be the difference in this victory for Swarthmore.
Garnet junior first baseman
Kalli Segel had an RBI double in the first. She went 3-for-3 with a walk, two RBIs and a run scored.
Glatz initiated the run scoring in the third by plating two on a single to right field. Starting pitcher
Lucy Decker also had an RBI base knock in that inning.
Swarthmore never gave up its lead as Decker held her own in the circle by pitching all seven innings. She's 6-3 this season.
Junior
Gabriella Natoli provided an insurance run for Swarthmore in the fifth as she scored Glatz on a sacrifice.
Vike joined Segel with three hits in the win. Sophomore
Mika Maenaga had two.
The Garnet return to Clothier Field on Tuesday at 3 p.m. for a doubleheader against Haverford College.
