ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa.—Freshman Gyan Bains led Swarthmore College Golf with a second place overall finish in a field of 96 golfers at Saturday and Sunday's Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic. On the par-72, 6,713-yard course at Bridges Golf Club, Bains shot 77 (+5) on Saturday and a 71 (-1) on Sunday. He finished just three strokes off of the top spot on the leaderboard. Bains scored two birdies in the first round and sank four more in the second round.
Swarthmore tied for fourth overall with conference opponent Franklin & Marshall College after tallying up a 609 (+33). McDaniel won outright on its home course with a 593 (+17).
Junior Michael Brown cracked the top-10, tying for eighth place with a 150 (+6). He shot a 77 on Saturday and trimmed his score to 73 on Sunday.
Ankur Malik recorded a 154 (+10), tying for 35th in a crowded field. Freshman Leonard Park shot a 157 (+13) and finished with five birdies over the two rounds.
Arjun Madan shot a 164 (+20) as an individual and Henry Lei recorded a 173 (+29).
Next week marks the end of the fall season for the Garnet. Swarthmore competes at the Montgomery Cup on Oct. 5 and 6 and at the Muhlenberg Fall Invite on Oct. 7.
