Johns Hopkins Drops Heartbreaker to 11th-ranked Skidmore

• The Short Story: The 26th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team came oh-so-close to the upset in a tough 5-4 loss to 11th-ranked Skidmore Saturday at the Blue-Gray Invitational.
 
How it Happened
• The Blue Jays swept the doubles matches to grab a 3-0 lead over the Thoroughbreds heading into singles.
• Sophomore Anjie Kashyap and junior Sophia Strickland earned an 8-6 win at first over Risa Fukushige and Renee Karchere-Sun. At second, sophomore Dhanya Asokumar and senior Kimberly Zou dropped just two games in their win over Jackie Ahn and Jessica Ampel. Freshmen Evelyn Chang and senior Katie Gauch closed out doubles with an 8-7 (4) victory at third over Sofia Carlsson and Lily Feldman.
• Skidmore turned the tables in singles, picking up wins at first through fifth to rally for the win. Fukushige, ranked 10th in the nation, topped Kashyap 6-3, 6-1 at first. Karchere-Sun took a three-setter over Strickland 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (0) at second.
• Dea Koiava beat Asokumar 6-3, 6-4 at third and Audrey SooHoo also won in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2, over Chang at fifth. Feldman held off Zou in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 to win at fourth. Freshman Jessica Liang earned a singles point for the Blue Jays with a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Laura Swenson at sixth.
 
What it Means
• Hopkins falls to 2-2 all-time against Skidmore with the Thoroughbreds winning the last two meetings.
 
Up Next
• Hopkins will travel to the Lone Star State for a pair of matches in Houston. Hopkins will take on Division I Rice on Tuesday, March 19 at 3:00 pm CT. The next day, JHU will face 14th-ranked Trinity (TX).
