Day One Results
ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Senior
Mike Cortese (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddon Township) captured the bronze medal in the hammer throw on Friday, leading the Gettysburg College men's track and field team on Day One of the Centennial Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by Muhlenberg College.
Through three scored events, the Bullets have tallied six points and are in seventh place. Dickinson College leads the way with 22 points and is followed by Haverford College (20.5), Swarthmore College (20), and Johns Hopkins University (19).
Cortese threw 122-04 to capture third in the hammer out of 13 competitors. It was his second Centennial Conference medal for the 2018-19 campaign as he also placed third in the weight throw during the indoor championship.
Freshman
Steven Heinbaugh (Fairfield, Pa./Fairfield) completed the first five events of the decathlon and is currently in second place with 2,871 points.
Four other Bullets were in action on Friday. Senior
Mike Miller (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) placed 11th in the 10,000-meter run with a personal record (PR) of 33:30.73, while freshman
Patrick Neighbour (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) also competed in the event and set a new PR of 35:00.78 to take 16th. Sophomore
Nicholas Grissinger (Palmyra, Pa./Milton Hershey) and freshman
Thaddeus Karaman (Sherburne, N.Y./Sherburne-Earlville) both competed in the pole vault, placing 11th (11-11.75) and 12th (11-11.75), respectively.
