Track Teams Throw Their Weight Around

Competing for the first time in 2020, the Muhlenberg track and field teams combined for 23 Centennial Conference qualifiers at the Moravian Indoor Invitational.

They also made some history in the meet, held at Lehigh. For the first time ever, the Mules fielded competitors in the indoor weight throw, and therefore added two new school records to the books. Sophomore Shawn Bolger established the men's mark at 25-9½, while freshman Maria Rivera put her name atop the women's list at 31-2. Rivera (pictured above left) actually broke the school record set by sophomore Abigail Wesolek, who was earlier in the throwing order and thus the first Muhlenberg female to compete in the weight throw.

The top performance of the meet was by freshman John Panny, who won the long jump in 21-10¾ - the second-best distance in program history and within five inches of a school record set in 2003. It was the first time competing in the long jump in college for Panny (pictured above right), who also placed third in the triple jump.

The Mules competed hard and produced plenty of other outstanding performances at the meet, which featured four Division I schools, one Division II school and 10 Division III schools.

Sophomore Abby Dalton placed third in the mile and fourth in the 800, posting a regional-qualifying time in the mile.

Dalton (mile), Panny (long jump), senior Jason Richwall (mile) and sophomore Corrin Ferrizzi (triple jump) all hit the ECAC qualifying standard. Ferrizzi placed second in the triple, behind only a Division I jumper from Colgate.

Sophomore Adebisi Adetoye (400), senior Alison Stouffer (high jump), junior Emily Mitchell (long jump), sophomore Ben Arehart (high jump) and senior Cameron Ford (triple jump) also placed in the top five in their events.
