LANGHORNE, Pa.—After trailing 2-0 on Wednesday, Swarthmore College Men's Soccer rallied with two second-half goals but couldn't overtake the Cairn University Highlanders, falling 3-2.
Swarthmore (6-4-1) conceded two goals on five shots to the Highlanders in the first half. Cairn's second goal came via a penalty kick in the 29th minute. The Highlanders improved to 7-3-1.
The Garnet took four shots of their own in the first period, but couldn't get anything to fall. Swarthmore came out firing in the second half and just two minutes into the second period ended the shutout.
Yuheng Wang received a throw-in from
Nick Ambiel on the right sideline, dribbled into the box and chipped the goalkeeper for his fourth goal of the season.
In the 61st minute, Swarthmore scored again as
Zach Viscusi fired in a low bouncing shot from the left side. Viscusi and Wang remain tied for the team lead in goals scored with four apiece.
Cairn connected on the go-ahead goal in the 85th minute to take the 3-2 lead.
Oliver Steinglass recorded three saves in goal for the Garnet in the loss.
With Wednesday's non-conference grass-pitch game behind them, the Garnet set their sights on a league road game at Johns Hopkins on Saturday at 1 p.m.
