COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Men's Indoor Track & Field team showed well once again as they hosted the annual Frank Colden Invitational, their final home meet of the indoor season, at the Floy Lewis Bakes Center on Saturday.
The Bears finished first in the team standings with 127.50 points which was 61.5 points clear of second place York.
Freshman
Liam Johnston highlighted the meet by setting a new program record in the mile with his race-winning time of 4:23.35. Johnston topped the previous school record of 4:24.04 set by James McDaid in 2019. Classmate
Ryan Martin also set a personal best in the race after crossing the line with a time of 4:30.72 in fifth place. Senior
Payton Stanziani led a 1-2 Ursinus finish in the 800 meters with his career best time of 1:56.97 and was followed by junior
Tucker McGrath in second with his time of 1:57.33.
Senior
Isaiah Battle led the Bears in each of the throwing events once again as he recorded mark of 56-5 ft. to finish second in the weight throw, which was just six inches off the winning mark of 56-11 ft. Battle placed third in the shot put on his throw of 46-2.25 ft. Senior
Tim Holzapfel finished in third in the weight throw after recording a career best mark of 53-10 ft. Sophomores
Tom Wood and
Chase Shaneman placed 10th and 11th overall in the 32-man field behind career best marks of 44-10 ft. and 42-5 ft, respectively.
Senior
Daniel Maloney finished second in the 60 meter hurdles with his time of 8.73 and sophomore
Devon Greaves rounded out the top five after crossing the line at 9.00.
In the sprints, senior
Daniel Tabor finished second in the 60 meter dash on his time of 7.19 that was just .01 off the winning time. Junior
Dolan Cox earned a runner-up finish in the 400 meter dash after recording a career best time of 52.64 while sophomore
Mason Jolivette led the Bears and finished seventh in the 200 meter dash after crossing the line at 23.60.
A pair of freshman in
Logan Yanoff and
Sean Bowers earned top five finishes in the pentathlon with Yanoff earning 2,289 points to finish second and Bowers placing third on his 2,203 point total.
Freshman
Cole Jackson won the triple jump behind his mark of 42-4.25 ft and Tabor placed sixth with his jump of 41-4.5. Junior
Michael Agbeye and freshman
Markel Roberts-Jackson finished back-to-back in the high jump with finishes of third and fourth, respectively.
Sophomore
Ken Komatsu finished third in the pole vault to lead the Bears in the event after clearing the bar at a career best 13-5.5 ft. Classmate
Evan Mitchell finished sixth with his mark of 12-11.5 ft.
The Bears return to action on Friday, February 10th as they will begin their two-day competition at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational at 11:00 a.m.
