Second-Half Surge Leads Women's Basketball to Victory

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Swarthmore College Women's Basketball earned a 83-57 victory over Penn State Harrisburg in the home opener on Saturday at Tarble Pavilion.
 
The Garnet held the Lions in check in the first half as they went into half with a 35-27 advantage. Harrisburg was eight of 25 from the field, including six of 19 from three point range. During the second frame, Swarthmore garnered ten points inside the paint, as the Lions only countered with four during the entire first half.
 
Out of the halftime break, freshman Dana Bandurick jump started the Garnet with two steals and six points in just over a minute. After a Kendall Tribus three pointer, the Lions attempted to get the ball across mid-court but it was taken by Bandurick. The guard drove the lane for two, but was fouled by Laurel Amey.
 
Bandurick took a missed layup by Anna Mahan coast to coast for an easy two points. Just seconds later, the freshman intercepted an attempted cross court pass for another fast break layup.
 
Swarthmore held Harrisburg to 27.3% shooting in the third frame, as the Garnet outscored them 27-12.
 
Tribus and Karinna Papke led Swarthmoe with 16 points each. Tribus added nine boards, four assist and three steals. Bandurick finished the game with nine points, eight rebounds and three assist in 20 minutes of action.
 
Swarthmore received 35 points off the bench, including 20 points in the fourth quarter. In 21 minutes of action, Papke shot 54.5% from the field with four rebounds, two assist and one steal. Christina Holmgren each Elizabeth Stiles recorded nine points, while Isabelle Ewart and Katee Kemether added six for the Garnet.
 
In the victory, Candice Signor-Brown collected her first victory at the helm of the Garnet.
 
The Garnet improved to 1-1, while the Lions fell to 0-2. Swarthmore takes the court on Wednesday as they host familiar foe Widener University at 6:00 p.m.
